Axon's new Body 5 body camera delivers 25x the AI processing power of earlier generations, adding a license-scanning lens and front-facing speakers.
Axon unveils Body 5 and Body 5 Pro
Axon (Nasdaq: AXON) announced Axon Body 5 on October 24, 2026, its newest body-worn camera built to bring intelligence, connectivity and real-time support directly to officers in the field. For the first time, Axon is introducing two versions of its flagship camera: Axon Body 5 and Axon Body 5 Pro.
Both models deliver 25x the AI processing power of earlier-generation cameras, with enhanced low-light video, improved connectivity in urban and remote environments, and 20% more battery life than the previous generation.
"Officers shouldn't have to choose between getting information and watching the scene. With Axon Body 5, they don't," said Axon founder and CEO Rick Smith.
New hardware built for hands-free work
The Pro model adds hardware that has no obvious precedent on a body camera. A near-focus camera lens lets officers scan driver's licenses to check status and search for wants or warrants in seconds without returning to the patrol vehicle, with results sent to Axon Fusus for real-time operations.
Four additional front-facing speakers project audio toward the person an officer is speaking with, helping real-time translations from Axon Assistant carry over traffic or crowd noise.
Extra memory lets the camera run several AI tools at once, and the Body 5 Pro will continue gaining new capabilities as they arrive through Axon's AI Era Plan.
Guardian brings AI alerts to the field
Body 5 anchors a broader push into real-time AI operations. Axon Guardian, a new category of AI features within the AI Era Plan, works with field devices such as body and in-car cameras to flag potential risks as situations unfold.
Its first two features are Escalation Detection, which on an active Axon Body 4 or Body 5 can detect potential conflicts in real time and create an alert in Axon Fusus for a human to review on the livestream, and Approach Alert, which on Axon Fleet 3 detects when the door of a stopped vehicle opens and warns the officer via the in-car display and body camera.
Axon's wider portfolio includes Draft One, which turns body-camera audio into report drafts, and Axon Assistant for voice-based information and translation.
Human oversight and what comes next
Axon says Body 5 and Guardian are developed under its Responsible Innovation framework, which prioritizes human oversight and maintains agency control over data, with the company's independent Ethics and Equity Advisory Council guiding deployment to align with community expectations.
General availability dates for Axon Body 5 and Axon Guardian will be announced soon, and product features and capabilities vary by configuration.
For a niche audience that tracks hardware, the notable shift is that a body camera is now positioned as an edge AI computing platform — with processing headroom Axon says is designed for tools that do not exist yet — rather than merely a recording device.
Axon positions the combination as reducing administrative burden and improving situational awareness before, during and after an incident.
