Stock futures climbed Monday while Brent crude fell over 4% on reported U.S.-Iran talks, and AI-related tech stocks rebounded after a losing October.
Futures Climb While Oil Slides
U.S. equity futures moved higher Monday morning, with S&P 500 futures up 0.4%, Nasdaq-100 futures gaining 0.7%, and Dow futures adding 196 points, or 0.4%, according to CNBC.
The gains came as oil prices fell sharply: Brent crude tumbled 4.3% to $108.60 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate futures dropped more than 4.4% to $99.51.
CNBC reports the oil slide accelerated amid reports that the U.S. and Iran are seeking diplomatic options to end the eight-month-long Middle East conflict.
AI Stocks Bounce Back After Selloff
The rebound in futures follows a losing week and a losing October for the tech-heavy Nasdaq, which suffered its worst monthly losses since March 2025 amid concerns about the artificial intelligence buildout.
CNBC reports that AI-related names recovered in premarket trading: Micron rose 2.7%, AMD climbed 2.2%, Nvidia was up 1.5%, and neoclouds CoreWeave and Nebius gained 2.4% and 3% respectively. Memory makers Micron, Sandisk and Western Digital each rose more than 2%.
On Friday, 3Fourteen Research's Warren Pies told CNBC's "Closing Bell Overtime": "I just don't see anything broken with the AI trade fundamentally. Technicals are another story."
Rotation, Binance Shock and Crypto Recovery
While tech sold off, the Dow rose almost 2% in October as investors rotated into defensive areas like healthcare.
Mike Dickson, head of research at Horizon, said in a note cited by CNBC that "rather than running for the hills amid heightened AI risks, investors are seeing plenty of return potential in other types of stocks."
CryptoPotato reports that bitcoin tapped $78,000 after recovering from a six-week low of $76,100 triggered by Friday's Binance hack, in which the exchange lost $6.3 billion.
According to CryptoPotato, ETH neared $2,300 while NEAR led decliners with a 6.3% drop to $4.13, leaving the total crypto market cap stable at $2.610 trillion.
A Packed Week: Earnings, Jobs and Midterms
Investors face a heavy calendar this week. Apple, a "Magnificent Seven" member, reports after the bell Monday, with McDonald's and Qualcomm due later, CNBC notes.
Friday brings October's nonfarm payrolls, expected to show an increase of 55,000 jobs according to economists polled by Dow Jones.
Midterm elections Tuesday could see Democrats take the House while Senate control remains uncertain, though Dickson noted stocks tend to stay steady regardless of which party controls Congress.
Internationally, CNBC reports U.K. manufacturing expanded at its fastest rate in more than two years in October, while the eurozone S&P Global manufacturing PMI came in at 52.7, beating forecasts and marking the strongest run of growth in more than four years.
