Fortnite's new Pirate Shop Token drops from fewer than 0.04% of opened chests and unlocks two 14-day windows of a completely free Item Shop.

What happened: a token that unlocks the whole shop

With Chapter 7 wrapped, Epic Games launched the Fortnite Treasure Hunters mini-season — an 80-player-capped event running until Chapter 8 arrives in roughly a month, with One Piece as the headline crossover.

Buried in its loot pool is the Pirate Shop Token: an extremely rare chest reward that grants free access to every cosmetic in the Item Shop.

Finding one lets a player claim all Item Shop items for free, a reward Vice calls 'crazier than it sounds,' and the token is already being treated as the most desirable drop of the season.

Why it's surprising: odds thinner than any lottery

Epic has not confirmed the exact spawn rate, but GAMINGbible reports that Twitter/X user LootTrackerFN estimated between 30,000 and 50,000 chests were opened by 2,000,000 players on Treasure Hunters' first day, with fewer than 10 reported winners.

That works out to a success rate the outlet pegs at less than 0.0005% of players, or 0.0333% of opened chests.

Squad mechanics: one chest pays the whole party

The token is shared across duos, trios and squads: if one member opens the winning chest, every player in the group receives Pirate Shop access, per VICE and The Big Lead.

GAMINGbible notes the spawn rate itself is unchanged, but four players opening chests give a group a better shot at finding it than a solo player.

Activation happens in the lobby: open the Item Shop, select 'Plunder the Item Shop,' then hit 'Activate Now' when ready — and since the 14-day clock starts on activation, holders can wait for cosmetics they actually want, like One Piece skins, before beginning their window.

The stakes: thousands in value, with carve-outs

During one chosen 14-day period in 2026 and another in 2027, holders can claim every Item Shop cosmetic — skins, backblings, gliders, emotes and kicks — for free, keeping them forever. VICE notes lucky players could walk away with cosmetics worth thousands of dollars without spending a cent.

The exclusions are real, though: no gifting free items to others, no real-money Packs, Battle Pass levels and rewards are out, and Sidekick claims are limited to one copy per eligible Sidekick the holder does not already own, per VICE and The Big Lead.

Everything claimed must be manually redeemed while the shop refreshes.

What comes next: a month to hunt

Treasure Hunters runs until Chapter 8 kicks off in approximately a month, so the chest-hunting window is short but weekly-guaranteed at minimum per The Big Lead.

With under ten winners publicly counted after day one, per GAMINGbible, most players will never see a token — which is precisely why the community is glued to the season.

The practical play is simple: open every chest for XP and a chance at the drop, play with friends to pool squad coverage, and if the coin lands, time the 2026 activation around a collaboration window rather than burning the two weeks on a thin shop rotation.
