'Cupid' crosses the billion mark

Fifty Fifty's breakout hit has reached a milestone few K-pop songs ever touch: 'Cupid (Twin Version)' has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. According to the group's agency Attrakt, the track had accumulated a cumulative 1,025,241,452 streams as of Sept. 22, earning it a place in Spotify's Billions Club, with a commemorative plaque delivered on the 22nd. The Herald Business reports a slightly different cumulative figure — 1,002,152,452 streams as of Tuesday — but both outlets agree the song has now cleared the billion-stream threshold. The track is the English-language rendition of the title song from the group's debut single album 'The Beginning: Cupid,' released in February 2023.

A viral path to chart history

The song's route to a billion streams began far from any label plan. The Herald Business reports that after release, the track gained traction on TikTok when Indonesian users adopted it as background music for their content, and that viral momentum carried over to Spotify. From there, the charts followed: 'Cupid' became the fastest K-pop group entry in Billboard Hot 100 history, then charted on the Hot 100 for 25 consecutive weeks and on the UK Official Chart for 22 straight weeks. Both outlets frame the song as a leading easy-listening hit, praised for its polished sound and fresh vocals, with Sports Kyunghyang noting the group has built a distinctive identity fans call 'FIFTY Pop.'

From 'miracle of a small agency' to a rebuilt lineup

The milestone lands with extra weight given what the group survived in between. The Herald Business recounts that Fifty Fifty debuted as a four-member group in November 2022 and, within four months, achieved success that earned them the label 'miracle of a small agency.' But in the summer of 2023, the group faced an existential crisis when a contract dispute erupted, entangled with an injunction to suspend their exclusive contracts and allegations of tampering by an outside production company. After a court rejected the injunction in August 2023, founding member Keena returned to anchor the group, and Attrakt brought in four new members — Moonchanel, Yewon, Hana and Athena — reconfiguring Fifty Fifty as a five-piece.

A long-running hit and what comes next

Sports Kyunghyang describes 'Cupid' as having established itself as one of Fifty Fifty's signature global long-running hits, a designation the agency says reflects the song's continued widespread love well beyond its initial viral moment. According to that report, the group is now showcasing diverse sides through fan concerts and social media and plans to continue actively engaging with fans.
