Jennifer Lawrence launched Mes°, a low-maintenance haircare line co-founded with biotech founder Jasmina Aganovic, debuting three US-only products.
What Happened: Mes° Arrives
Jennifer Lawrence officially entered the beauty industry this week with the launch of Mes°, a haircare brand she describes as "biodesigned" and developed in partnership with Arcaea, a biotechnology-led beauty company.
According to TheIndustry.beauty, Lawrence serves as founder in a 50-50 partnership with Arcaea founder and CEO Jasmina Aganovic, with Lawrence also holding an investment in Arcaea. The brand is sold exclusively through its own website and currently ships only within the US.
Lawrence says she spent three years working with Arcaea's scientists after watching Aganovic's TED Talk on biology in beauty. She also joined Instagram in September for the rollout, amassing 8.4 million followers by launch day.
The 'Unbothered Beauty' Pitch
Mes° launches with three products positioned around what Lawrence calls "Unbothered Beauty": the Multitask Repair Mask ($52), the Good Roots Volume Mist ($34) and the Off-Duty Restyling Serum ($44), all bundled as The Low Maintenance° Edit for $120.
In her Instagram post, Lawrence argued that "beauty stopped fitting into our lives and started asking our lives to fit around it."
NBC Selected reports the mask goes on dry hair and doubles as a glossy wet-look styler, the serum tames frizz with heat protection up to 450°F, and the volume mist targets oil buildup at the roots as a potential dry-shampoo replacement.
The Low Maintenance° Edit bundle is currently $10 off, per NBC Selected.
Lawrence's Very Hands-On Role
The Cut's October 2026 cover profile reveals just how deeply Lawrence involved herself: she flew alone to Aganovic's Boston lab, took nose-training classes to develop the scent, and sent the Off-Duty serum back to the lab nearly 150 times.
The Cut reports she tested the volumizing mist on the set of the Scorsese film 'What Happens at Night' and once smelled like fish after leaving an unscented mask on for four days.
Aganovic, initially worried a celebrity partner could be a distraction, was convinced when Lawrence said, "If you want to do this in five years, I'll still be here." Lawrence also pushed for the modernist mini-vase bottle design and approved every letter on the website.
Why It's a Surprise
Lawrence is an unlikely beauty founder. Yahoo Shopping notes she never shared holy-grail products the way Hailey Bieber did before Rhode, never made hair her signature like Blake Lively, and only joined Instagram in September, posting to her grid just three times.
The Cut reports she confessed to pre-launch nerves: "What if nobody gets it? What if everybody hates it?" She frames Mes° as an artistic extension rather than a merch line, telling The Cut she got "that same electric buzz I get from building a character."
The name is pronounced "mess" — the plain spelling was already trademarked — a tongue-in-cheek nod to her lazy-girl philosophy, per Yahoo.
A Crowded, Risky Celebrity Field
Mes° joins a booming but unforgiving category. TheIndustry.beauty notes Beyoncé's Cécred recently expanded into all 90 Space NK stores in the UK and Ireland, Rihanna launched Fenty Hair in June 2024, and Blake Lively's Blake Brown entered earlier.
Beyond haircare, Hailey Bieber's Rhode was acquired by E.l.f. Beauty last year in a deal valued at up to $1 billion.
But the same report chronicles cautionary tales: Kate Moss's Cosmoss entered voluntary liquidation in June 2025, Gwen Stefani's GXVE Beauty closed earlier this year, Scarlett Johansson's The Outset announced a wind-down in September, and Georgia May Jagger paused MAY Botanicals in July.
Differentiation and long-term viability, the outlet says, decide outcomes.
What Comes Next for Mes°
The launch week also included a promotional podcast circuit: Lawrence discussed Mes° with Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy, where she revealed the name was her first instinct — she and Arcaea went through thousands of alternatives before trademark constraints brought them right back to it, according to The Singju Post's transcript.
Whether Mes° thrives like Rhode or joins the closures list will be the story to watch.
