Meadows, a father of three children aged 1, 2 and 4, said working so far from them was a 'heart-wrencher,' and told producers it had 'been one of my dreams and goals to make it up here' to support his family.

The most wrenching context surrounding the broadcast, according to Page Six, is that Meadows' mother, Angela, previously begged the network not 'to air any of that footage or make money off of our son's death.' Page Six also reports the family obtained a lawyer in April to potentially pursue a wrongful death lawsuit, though it remains unclear whether legal action has materialized. The cameras stayed in the control center as Shelford called the Coast Guard, breaking down in tears before a producer told him, 'He's gone, Rick.' The open question now is legal: whether the family moves forward with a wrongful death suit against the network that aired its loss, and how Discovery balances tribute against profit in future coverage.
