Al-Jasmi Opens Dubai Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027

Dubai Fashion Week's spring/summer 2027 edition opened Thursday night with a runway debut from Kuwaiti designer Yousef Al-Jasmi, according to Arab News.

The five-day event, co-founded by Dubai Design District (D3) and the Arab Fashion Council, runs at Dubai Design District until October 26, with four designers presenting on opening night.

Al-Jasmi — a designer more often seen dressing celebrities than showing his own line — closed the night's anticipation around who would open the week, and Arab News framed his debut as the edition's headline moment.

The Collection: Nude, Lilac and Black, Heavy With Crystals

Arab News reports that Al-Jasmi, whose gowns have been worn by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Naomi Campbell, showed eveningwear in nude, lilac and black.

Among the looks the outlet describes: a sheer high-necked gown with floor-length cape sleeves covered in crystals and pearls, a halter gown with strands of crystals draped across the skirt, and a strapless black gown with a voluminous ruffled skirt.

For a designer making his first Dubai Fashion Week runway appearance, the collection leaned fully into the red-carpet glamour that made his name with pop and fashion royalty.

Puri, Pedram and Bajaj Complete the Opening Night

The rest of the opening night, as detailed by Arab News, offered a wide stylistic range.

UAE-based Sara Pedram showed "Simurgh," inspired by Attar of Nishapur's 12th-century poem "The Conference of the Birds," including a Prussian-blue velvet gown with a Swarovski-crystal Tree of Life traced across its train.

Dubai-based Pallavi Puri presented "Beyond Borders," built on traditional Indian beadwork and horse motifs, with Indian model Lisa Haydon opening and Lebanese star Cyrine Abdelnour closing in an embellished bridal look.

Krésha Bajaj closed the evening with beaded fringe and tie-dye in collaboration with Alok Lodha Jewels.

Runway Firsts Are the Moment Fashion Is Watching

The stakes for debut nights feel higher than ever. WBAL News Radio reports that more than 3.5 million people watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show this past Sunday, calling it the most-watched fashion show ever, and that Nanabah Grace became the first Navajo woman to walk its runway.

Grace told WBAL that representation weighs on her: "there aren't a lot of us in these spaces," she said, adding that she carries her family, ancestors and community with her.

What Comes Next: Four More Days, Plus a Stateside Drop

Dubai Fashion Week runs at Dubai Design District until October 26, and Arab News notes more regional design to come, including GNL Couture's pastels and Omani label Luvashk taking its ballerina heels to Paris.

Meanwhile, Who What Wear reports that Gap and Victoria Beckham's second collaboration has arrived — a 37-piece fall/winter collection expanding on their debut with fine-knit turtlenecks, wool tailoring, and a reissued cinch-waist jacket in army green and chocolate brown — which the outlet predicts will sell out faster than the last drop.

Between Dubai's opening night and a hotly awaited retail drop, fashion fans have a packed calendar.
