Speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music, Robert Smith promised The Cure will play more concerts in 2027, confident they will be bursting with new songs.

Smith Teases a Bursting-with-Songs 2027

Robert Smith told BBC Radio 6 Music on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, that he is 'looking forward to more Cure concerts in 2027,' while admitting he is 'not allowed to say where or when yet.' His confidence, he said, rests on the shows being 'bursting with new songs.'

The message came as the station named The Cure one of its Artists of the Year for 2026, a nod the 67-year-old frontman used to tease the band's next chapter rather than simply celebrate the last one.

Why Another Album Talk Is Surprising

Fans had braced for a long wait after *Songs Of A Lost World* — the band's first studio album in 16 years, following 2008's *4:13 Dream*.

Instead, the record topped charts in more than 30 countries and became the band's first UK number one, and Smith revealed a month before its release that the next album was 'virtually finished,' with enough material for a further record.

According to 98.7 The Gator, Smith has also teased that another album could be even darker than *Songs Of A Lost World*, which is a striking claim about an album already famed for its bleakness.

The Evidence: A Massive 2026 Run

The promise follows a busy return to the stage.

contactmusic.com reports the band began 2026 at Primavera Sound in Barcelona in June, then headlined the Isle of Wight Festival and Rock en Seine in Paris, and played Nîmes, Berlin, Roskilde and Warsaw, plus standalone UK and Ireland shows at Dublin's Marlay Park, Belfast's Belsonic, Manchester's Wythenshawe Park and Edinburgh Summer Sessions.

The summer run totalled 31 shows across 23 countries. The 2025 companion *Mixes Of A Lost World* also reimagined the album via Four Tet, Orbital, Mogwai and Paul Oakenfold.

Smith's Year Outside The Cure — and What's Next

Smith also spent 2026 far from the band, per contactmusic.com: he joined Olivia Rodrigo for a surprise Primavera Sound set performing 'What's Wrong With Me', their first original collaboration, which landed on her third album and gave Smith his first Billboard Hot 100 appearance as a solo artist.

He also plays guitar on 'Divine Intervention' from The Rolling Stones' *Foreign Tongues*. With dates and locations still under wraps, fans now await the promised new songs — and possibly two more albums' worth of material.
