Voice Over Herald reports Bleach's TV anime ended with episode 50 after 22 years, with Ichigo's voice actor saying it still doesn't feel finished.
A 22-Year Run Reaches 'DEATH & STRAWBERRY'
Voice Over Herald reports that Bleach's TV anime has ended after 22 years, with episode 50, "DEATH & STRAWBERRY," closing Thousand-Year Blood War, The Calamity on TV Tokyo stations at 24:00 on Monday, October 26, Japan time.
According to the outlet, that finale means the anime, which began in October 2004, has now told the whole of Tite Kubo's manga through the final chapter.
What makes the ending unusual is the mood around it: Masakazu Morita, Ichigo's voice since 2004, told ORICON NEWS that "it doesn't feel finished at all," and Fumiko Orikasa, Rukia's voice, said neither actor sounded ready to say goodbye.
Voicing a Battle Nobody Had Finished Drawing
The most surprising reveal, per Voice Over Herald, is a rare look at how the finale's biggest moments were recorded.
At an October 25 screening event at United Cinema Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo — where fans watched episodes 41 to 49 back to back — Morita and Noriaki Sugiyama, Uryu Ishida's voice, described recording long before the animation was complete.
Morita said the picture was "nowhere near that finished" when they recorded, and he was stunned by the broadcast version.
Sugiyama, per the outlet's report of eeo Media's official event coverage, wrestled with how much emotion to show in new scenes of episode 45, "DEFEND YOU," that aren't in the manga at all.
Why the Ending Feels Like a Family Reunion
Voice Over Herald emphasizes that the cast's bond survived a decade off the air. Morita said that when he returned to the Bleach studio in 2022 after roughly ten years, "the atmosphere in the studio hadn't changed at all," and Orikasa said the cast "understand each other without exchanging a word."
Morita compared the group to family — then joked it was "like relatives gathering for a memorial service," which he called fitting for Soul Reapers.
He called Ichigo "a role my career couldn't do without," and Orikasa closed the interview telling fans that Ichigo and Rukia's relationship "will never change."
Not a Farewell: BLEACH FES and New Surprises
Per Voice Over Herald, Morita refuses to call this goodbye: "Ichigo is still a character who isn't finished," and he led the Odaiba crowd in a "Bankai!" call and response.
The outlet reports Kubo drew two brand-new middle-aged male characters for the finale, and that BLEACH FES runs February 27–28, 2027 at Makuhari Messe with 15 voice actors.
Meanwhile, Anime Trending reports the newly revealed Mecha Samurai original short web anime — with character designs by Shaman King's Hiroyuki Takei — debuts November 2, 2026, showing the genre's next wave filling the space Bleach leaves behind.
