BLACKPINK's Lisa released her first solo EP 'Press Play,' a six-track set led by 'Tarantino' and her first new music in 20 months.
The Comeback: 'Press Play' Arrives at Midnight
BLACKPINK's Lisa returned to the music scene Friday with her new solo EP, 'Press Play,' released at midnight and marking her first release in one year and eight months.
According to both The Korea Times and Korea JoongAng Daily, the six-track album is the singer's first solo EP and follows her debut full-length album, 'Alter Ego,' which came out in February last year.
The EP is fronted by the lead track 'Tarantino,' and also includes 'Sawadika,' 'V12,' 'Cobra,' 'Cut U Off' and 'Sweat.'
Why This Release Is a Milestone
Korea JoongAng Daily reports that 'Sawadika,' released ahead of the album in September, debuted at No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 shortly after release and set a record for Lisa as her highest-charting song.
The Korea Times notes the same Billboard figure and describes it as a new record for the artist.
Then came the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles last month, where she won the Best Pop award, a major category, for 'Dream,' a track from 'Alter Ego' — becoming, per both outlets, the first Asian solo artist to claim the prize.
The Evidence: Pre-Release Momentum
The rollout shows the EP was built around momentum rather than a cold start. The Korea Times frames the EP's midnight release as Lisa 'returning to the music scene,' language both publishers use, underscoring how anticipated the project was after nearly two years between solo releases.
The VMA win for 'Dream' — cited by both outlets as a major-category first for an Asian solo artist — gave the comeback an award-season pedestal, and the EP's lead track 'Tarantino' now carries that attention into the new material.
What Comes Next for Lisa
The stakes now rest on whether 'Press Play' can extend the records 'Sawadika' and the VMA win set in motion.
Both The Korea Times and Korea JoongAng Daily position the EP as the follow-up to 'Alter Ego,' meaning fans are watching to see how the six new tracks — 'Tarantino,' 'Sawadika,' 'V12,' 'Cobra,' 'Cut U Off' and 'Sweat' — chart against her established catalog.
The next talking point for fans is how 'Tarantino' performs as lead single in the wake of the EP's midnight release.
