Jennifer Lawrence revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast that Woody Harrelson will reprise Haymitch in Sunrise on the Reaping, out November 20.
Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch Reunite After 11 Years
Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about an emotional return to The Hunger Games franchise after 11 years, according to Female First.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Oscar-winning actress said she is reprising Katniss Everdeen in the forthcoming prequel "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," which reaches cinemas on 20 November.
She confirmed she filmed alongside Josh Hutcherson, 34, who plays Peeta Mellark, and unexpectedly let slip that Woody Harrelson, 65, will also return as Haymitch Abernathy.
Female First reports that Variety had said last December that Lawrence and Hutcherson would reprise their roles for a scene, but Harrelson's involvement had not previously been confirmed in that report.
An 'Unbelievable' Reunion — and a Window Invader
Per Female First, Lawrence described stepping back into the role with her former co-stars as overwhelming.
"It was unbelievable. It was so crazy. It was the same crew," she said, adding that she and Hutcherson barely walked apart: "Josh and I didn't walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other."
She also joked about Harrelson's entrance into her life again: "Woody, obviously, came through the window of my hotel room uninvited. It wouldn't be the same if he listened to boundaries or used a door."
The original four films, released between 2012 and 2015, cast Harrelson as the mentor whose cynicism concealed his commitment to keeping his tributes alive.
London Rolls Out the Red Carpet
Page Six reports that the stars gathered in London on Wednesday night for the premiere of "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," with 19 photo looks from the red carpet.
Among those pictured were Elle Fanning, Glenn Close, Mckenna Grace, Joseph Zada, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Kelly Rutherford, Whitney Peak and director Francis Lawrence.
What Comes Next for Panem
According to Female First, the prequel focuses on a younger Haymitch, played by 21-year-old Joseph Zada, competing in the 50th Hunger Games 24 years before the original story, and Lawrence's comments suggest the adaptation will retain the novel's flash-forward epilogue involving Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch.
The film, directed by Francis Lawrence, who has overseen every instalment since Catching Fire, has been rated 12A in the UK by the British Board of Film Classification with a running time of about 158 minutes.
Female First notes Lionsgate previously reported the franchise has generated $3.3 billion at the global box office, including the 2023 prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."
