Seattle's defense held Patrick Mahomes without a touchdown and limited Kenneth Walker III to 36 yards in a statement 20-3 win Sunday night.

What Happened at Lumen Field

The Seattle Seahawks snapped a two-game skid with a 20-3 Sunday night win over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, leaning on the familiar formula of a stifling Mike Macdonald defense and an unguardable Jaxon Smith-Njigba, per nfl.com.

Kansas City was held without a touchdown — only the second full game of Patrick Mahomes' career in which the Chiefs failed to reach the end zone, the other a 24-9 loss to Denver in Week 8, 2023.

The defeat frustrated Kenneth Walker III, the reigning Super Bowl MVP who left Seattle for Kansas City this offseason, and he did not shake hands with his former teammates afterward. "S---, we lost," Walker said, per ESPN.

"I was frustrated. That's about it. I [saw] them over there celebrating and s---. That's about it."

Why the Score Flatters the Losers

The domination felt bigger than a 17-point margin. nfl.com reports that the Chiefs generated just 213 total yards, went 3-of-11 on third downs, netted only 11 first downs and averaged 4.3 yards per play — and for the first time in a Mahomes start, Kansas City never even reached the red zone.

Mahomes finished 19-of-33 for 165 yards with an interception, looking, in the site's words, dazed and confused by the end.

The physicality of the loss alarmed analysts too: Super Bowl champion receiver Greg Jennings said on First Things First that the Chiefs "were just flat-out dominated. They were bullied. They were out-physicaled," per Pro Football Network via Yahoo Sports.

For a Kansas City offense that had shredded every defense through Week 6, Seattle proved a force it simply could not overcome.

The Evidence: Emmanwori and the Numbers

Safety Nick Emmanwori, who declared "we put on a clinic" after the win, delivered the kind of stat line that explains the shutout.

According to nfl.com, Next Gen Stats credited him with allowing just two receptions for 26 yards on seven targets, forcing a career-high five incompletions in coverage and generating two pressures on 10 pass rushes — including the second-quarter pressure that forced Mahomes' interception.

He now leads all defensive backs with 12 pressures this season. The defense also set its stated goal against Walker: "I definitely did want to hold him under 100 (yards)," Emmanwori said.

Walker, averaging 133.0 rushing yards per game entering the night, managed just 36 yards on 14 carries, ending an 11-game streak with at least 50 rushing yards, per nfl.com.

What Comes Next: Records and the AFC West

Seattle's win restores the reigning champions to the form that made them title favorites, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba's record pace is a big reason why.

He torched the Chiefs' secondary for 150 yards and a touchdown on nine catches, and nfl.com notes he is only the fourth player in the Super Bowl era with at least 100 receiving yards in six of his team's first seven games, joining Michael Irvin (1995), Marvin Harrison Sr. (2000) and Adam Thielen (2018).

Averaging 123.86 receiving yards per game, he is on pace to break Calvin Johnson's 1,964-yard single-season record.

Kansas City, meanwhile, must regroup quickly: per Pro Football Network via Yahoo Sports, the Chiefs visit division-rival Denver in Week 8, with a win giving them the season sweep and a 1.5-game AFC West lead — and a loss dropping them half a game behind the Broncos.
